A property handed back 'clean' rarely is by check-in standards: there are marks behind the furniture, limescale in the bathroom, grease above the hob, dust in the cupboards and on the vents. We go over the whole place while it is empty.
For a landlord the maths is simple: every empty week costs a month's rent in pieces. We come within days of the check-out, and we flag with photographs anything that needs works — a seal to redo, a wall to repaint — so re-letting is not delayed by a late surprise.
