The smell leaves through the floor, not the air freshener
A bin room is maintained through its floor and walls: it is the dried spillage and the residue at the foot of the bins that produce the smell, not the air. We wash, disinfect and rinse the whole room, including the refuse chute where the building has one.
Regular treatment also cuts down pests, which come looking for what they cannot find elsewhere. We report what we notice to the managing agent — a cracked bin, a door that no longer closes, a blocked drain — because a clean room rarely stays clean when the container is faulty.
